I keep reading these gorgeous food blogs and am stunned by the beautiful pictures... of tomatoes, or muffins, or some other everyday item. The pictures are taken at a special setting that I don't know about, and I'm dying to learn! Can anyone help me? The part I like best is that one part of the picture is in focus, while everything else is a little fuzzy or blurry. How do I do that? Do I need a special camera?

it's called a macro setting. most new digital cameras have this setting. read in your handbook and see.
Hey there Kath and Brad!
The fuzzy/blurry background is called 'bokeh'. Here is an example:

In most cases this effect is created by narrowing the depth of field to highlight the subject. If you can change the aperture on your camera, set it so it's wide open allowing the most light in. For example you want an aperture of perhaps f/4 (wide open) rather than f/11 or higher.
Macro settings are great and will allow the camera to focus at close range. Depending on the type of camera/lens it may or may not give you the bokeh effect but it should give you sharp close ups.
