I hate cancer.

We received some sad news last night about a buddy of Brad's from college. Mark was diagnosed with cancer a few months ago and had a significant surgery yesterday. According to the blog that his wife, Ruth, keeps up, they weren't able to take all the cancer out. There are some treatments left to try, such as radiation, etc., but the prognosis isn't as hopeful as we'd hoped.

Oh, how I want to fix and heal and solve and help. Oh, how all my efforts are meaningless.

"When we honestly ask ourselves which person in our lives mean the most to us, we often find that it is those who, instead of giving advice, solutions, or cures, have chosen rather to share our pain and touch our wounds with a warm and tender hand. The friend who can be silent with us in a moment of despair or confusion, who can stay with us in an hour of grief and bereavement, who can tolerate not knowing, not curing, not healing and face with us the reality of our powerlessness, that is a friend who cares." - Henri Nouwen

Jesus, please be with them in this time. Heal Mark miraculously. Remove the cancer, take away the symptoms, restore him to health as only you can.
