A dry spell = fires

It has been an unusually active fire season this spring. About once a week we look outside and see a dark stack of smoke rising from somewhere nearby. We've taken to chasing them to see where they are-- not the most wise choice, probably, and also a bit fruitless as what are we going to do once we find it? High-five each other and go back home. But it has been nuts lately. This morning we woke up to a smoky house-- the huge wildfires in the area have left a lingering smoky smell that has been concentrated by the dense fogs. Thankfully there were no new fires this morning, but waking up to a stinky bedroom certainly causes one to wake quickly!

This past weekend a fire started just east of the old airport here, between the airport and us. It has burned for quite a few days and was mostly under control by yesterday, though it did burn two houses and more than 1000 acres. Lehigh has lots of vacant lots with lots of brush and old pine trees, fueling fires easily and spreading them quickly. We're thankful to live in a new-ish neighborhood with few tall trees.
