I just got word that I will be guest lecturing on Tuesday to 180 eager
College Algebra students! Well, eager might be a bit optimistic to
say of them, but I certainly am eager to do this! The professor I'm
guest lecturing for is, well, er, awful. Instead of actually
teaching, he just says, "See this example on page 100? Circle and put
three exclamation points by that one! Veddy important! See page 102?
FOUR exclamation points!" and so on. I have some of his students in
my lab sections and they are struggling, so I went to the department
head to talk to him. I told him I wouldn't complain without offering
a solution, and I would be happy to teach the lectures under the guise
of gaining experience as a lecturer. The chair agreed that there is
an issue, and he liked my idea, and the professor agreed to it as
well. So I will be giving my first large-scale lecture on Tuesday at
2 p.m.! Oh, I am excited. I just love these kids, and I want to see
them succeed. I hope this works out well for them.
