Brad made the most of his time on Thursday digging a big hole in our front yard. We've had a water problem there in the triangle formed by the house and the front walk. Whenever it rains at all, the water gathers in the corner and floods out the plants, who are inches from death even despite the drought. We've gotten two days of quick showers and even with that little water we get a pool. Brad came up with the bright idea of digging a dry well for the water to seep into. He dug a hole about a foot and a half deep and a foot and a half in diameter, and also tunnel-ed partway under the walk. He put a perforated pipe under the walk, which we wrapped tootsie-roll-style with a silt filter to keep dirt out. Then he put a big bucket, actually the black plastic thing our foxtail palm came in, in the hole and filled it with rocks, covered it with silt filter, and covered it all over with dirt and mulch. Looks like nothing has changed, but hopefully it will make a life-or-death difference for our little lantana flowers.
