I was inspired a few weeks ago by the latest Martha Stewart Good Things for Kids magazine. They had this cute pasta pie-- isn't it just like Martha to come up with a labor-intensive way to serve pasta?

I thought this would be a perfect addition to the lasagna night. I boiled the noodles ahead of time, then Bethany and I added a cup of parm cheese to the noodles, and then placed them, one by one, in a 9-inch springform pan.

Then we spread about 2 cups of sauce over the top, coaxing the meat down into the noodles.

We baked it for 15 minutes, then topped it with 2 cups of mozz cheese and baked for 15 minutes more. Voila!

We served it with a bowl of extra sauce along with the lasagna, garlic bread, and salad. Success!!! Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures of the after, once we took it out of the springform pan and cut it like a cake. It turned out just like the picture in the magazine, however. Hooray!
And the lasagna turned out well, too. The sauce was really good, and I used a mozz/smoked provolone shredded cheese mix. Really great flavor.

Chris brought a cake for Jeff...

...and the kids helped him blow out the candles.

The evening ended with the adults sitting and clapping while the kids frenetically danced off the sugar from the cake and ice cream. It was hilarious. Once everyone left we cleaned up. Because of the ant situation (yes, there were hoards more this morning) we didn't dare leave dishes on the counter or in the sink. We rinsed everything off and then stuck them in the oven for the evening.

In other news, I went to a craft show today as a little research trip. Ashley and I had a great time and were inspired. We're going to brainstorm this week and have lunch next Saturday for a little planning session. We had a great conversation with a lady at the craft show about how to get started selling stuff at craft shows. We're inspired!
