Forgive me. It's been a week since my last post.

Last week was a blur. While I still love my job and the students I have, it is really exhausting. The pace is breakneck, and it's just rough to cram all that math down the poor kids' throats five times a day. So evenings are crash-time, hence the lack of blogging. (Except for Thursday. Thursday was the season premiere of The Office, which we've been looking forward to since May. It did not disappoint, except that we thought it started at 8 pm and had trouble staying awake until 9 when it started... and until 10 when it ended. Worth the toothpicks-in-the-eyelids, though. Very funny show.)

This past weekend we played hooky from church and took advantage of a gorgeous day on Sanibel. And then it was Monday again. I spent the day sewing, though my first attempt at an apron was dismal. But a little tweaking and I think I have my first original apron pattern figured out! I've been stressed about having enough stuff made for this show in 25 days... I have NOTHING done, not even my patterns. But I'm just going to do the best I can do, and go and learn, even if I sell out in the first hour. I'm looking forward to the show, especially after a fun day sewing yesterday.

And for dinner I tried something new! I saw last week on Serious Eats that someone had made a bacon "mat"-- basically woven strips of bacon into a mat! Genius! (Maybe "novel!" is a better thing to say.) So I thought I'd give it a try.

Mmmm. Nice BLT sandwich. All looks normal, right?

But wait! I sense something awry with the bacon. Is it...? Could it be...? A BACON MAT???

Why, yes, it IS a bacon mat!

My sister called as I was weaving the half-strips of bacon ("You're doing WHAT?"). I followed the instructions online of baking the mat but it didn't stay flat nor get crispy, so I made another and put it in the frying pan under my bacon press. Bacon perfection. They come out flexible when hot, and I hear you can mold them over a bowl to make a little bacon bowl. Perfect for salad, don't you think? Or to hold cheesy mashed potatoes? Really, what wouldn't taste good in a bacon bowl?

After dinner we went to our weekly seminar on Theophostic Prayer Ministry, which is always an enlightening and encouraging time. On the way there the sun was setting and was just visible through a crack in the overcast-ness. Looked better in person, but not too shabby here, either.

This week will be easier on me as it's midterm week and the kids are all studying. (More work for them, less work for me!) I don't have to grade or anything... so it makes for a nice week. So most of my classes are optional, and I have little to no prep to do for them.

Oh, we got the bad news yesterday that Brad did not receive that extra responsibility we thought he was going to get. Blah. So we will continue to wait to see how God chooses to provide for us!

The bacon mat makes so much more sense with pictures :)
