But they just keep coming! Right on US 41- main drag through Fort
Myers- there's a big billboard on a busy corner. It has two stick
figure people- man and women- and in big letters : www.my crappy sex
life.com (spaces inserted so I won't get googled). I saw it a few
days ago when they first put it up and thought, how tasteless and just
too much. Try explaning that to my seven year old niece or any other
child learning to read as you drive by on your daily way!
Today I remembered to actually check it out. It's an advertisement
for a CHURCH down here that is doing a series on sex. Unreal! I just
hate the hype and shock value that is employed like a hook to get
people to come to church. We actually tried this church-- it was one
we were excited about before we even got here!-- and couldn't take it.
The people have good intentions but the hype and hysteria is just too
much.
Unless I'm forgetting Jesus' stint in shock marketing, I thought our
job was to love God and love people. Nowhere were we instructed to
lure them in with over-the-top, potentially offensive marketing.

POTENTIALLY offensive?? I have little ones who can read billboards while we drive. That's awful!
Now that billboard is soooo backwards. I agree 100%. There are a few other websites out there with similar attempts at "shock outreach", some with even more questionable 'hooks'. While I understand trying to find new, creative ways to reach people, there is a clear line that should not be crossed regardless of it's intent.
