Dad has been in town since Tuesday and we spent the weekend together tooling around Naples. Dad and I went out to breakfast at Mimi's Cafe and then went to Ceragem for back treatments (ahhh). Then we picked up Brad and went down to Naples to a fun fruit stand where they have samples of everything, from watermelon to sweet corn, key lime pie, strawberries, fresh salsa, you name it. We ended up returning after lunch to buy some sweet corn, strawberries, and salsa to take home. But in between the two stops there we went for lunch at Tommy Bahamas. It might be only an hour away, but it feels like you're on vacation. The weather was warm and sunny, the live music was island-y, and the food was great. One of the best lunches I've had in a while. In the evening we watched a movie - Coach Carter, I believe. Pretty good.
Sunday we got up for church and then had a barbecue. Dad was the grill master, grilling up burgers, chicken, and cheddar brats which were pretty much inhaled by the family who came. I just love having the family over-- cooking for a crowd is a fun challenge and I just love it. Ralph and Chris came and brought the visitors they had in town-- old family friends whom I'd never met. Rico and Beth came and brought the little girls, which prompted Dad to mention that he'd like grandchildren. By the end of the afternoon our bellies were full of chicken, burgers, brats, chips, veggies, banana-chocolate-chip-cake, and key lime pie. Oh- I forgot to mention that we stopped by Bella Maria in Naples to pick up a key lime pie there. Maria has been supplying key lime pies to my dad for many years now and you won't find better. We still have a bit left which won't last the night.
Over the weekend I caught another bug, it seems. I am so damn tired of being sick-- going on four months now. I slept in on Monday and skipped the morning of work, which felt great. When I got here my colleague reminded me that the pollen count is high, and maybe it's allergies and not a cold. Who knows. So last night Brad and I raided CVS in search of a treatment. I'm trying Claritin for the next 5 days to see if that makes a difference. I feel a little better today-- still stuffy and really tired, but not as sneezy.
So that's it for now. Dad is here until Thursday night and then Mom comes on Friday night. It's a busy March, but how can I complain? The weather this week is dreamy-- 74 and sunny, and the evenings are getting into the 40s!
