Friends!!!

This past week we have seen peace restored to the Bressler house! We were supposed to wait four weeks after surgery to let the bunnies' hormones get out of their system, but they were doing so well we decided to let them have a date. We let them both out of their cages at the same time and armed ourselves with squirt bottles and towels in case a fight broke out. We were certain that Georgie would establish dominancy and Vinny would put his nose down first, showing submissiveness.

But we were wrong! Georgie cemented her nose to the floor, begging Vinny for kisses! And we had no fights at all!!! This was a true surprise!!! And they've gotten along pretty well ever since! They had about six "dates", or shared running time, and have enjoyed drinking, peeing, and pooping in each other cages. This has not been as much fun for me as it means lots of cleaning, but at least they've been getting used to each other. And Vinny has been good to give her kisses, but Georgie hasn't reciprocated much.

So we decided to force some interaction in hopes of strengthening their bond. I've been reading online about the bonding process, and it was suggested to put them in a bathtub so they can't ignore each other. At first they play coy and just do their own thing:

... then give some sniffs and tentative licks...

... then full on grooming...

...then snuggling!

Brad hopped in to give them some pets.

And since then (this past weekend) we've caught Georgie giving Vinny some licks! They won't mate as they're both fixed; this bonding process is just so that they will be happier bunnies. Who knew they were so social?!

Grandparents, do you recognize the purple towel in the bathtub? It's one of the ones you gave me when I got my first apartment in 2000! Georgie has "embellished" it and it's now part of her collection of "bunny lace."

Home is happy again!
