Things are moving along here in the Bressler household. We leave in sixteen short days! But we have sixteen whole days to get ready! This is the best, most organized move I've ever had, and I'm actually enjoying the process. It's a lot of work and a lot of decision making (what to bring, what to store, what to sell, what to give away) but it has been a very cleansing process to pare down, pare down, pare down.
We made a plan over the weekend about what we were going to do each day to get ready. Last night's task was to pack up the garage. We got it done in three hours! The shelves are disassembled, everything is boxed up and separated into "bring" and "store" sides of the garage, and we got it all done in one night! A small crisis was averted when Brad ran to my aid; I was taking down the plastic shelves which were holding up stacks of empty boxes. I didn't realize what was leaning on what, and soon the two sets of shelves began leeeeeeeaning toward me. I looked over to the other shelf and saw our router and router table on the top of the 6 foot high shelf begin to cascade toward the floor... but Brad ran over and we caught everything, no damage done. I forget how dangerous moving is, especially when one is as clumsy as I am.
Another way I'm getting ready is by using up my baking supplies. This is quite tasty, but not so healthy. I'd been doing well eating healthily until this new task; but yesterday for breakfast I had chocolate cookies with peanut butter chips. Today I had gingerbread (if you try that, add another egg, small box of vanilla pudding mix, and double the spices. Makes a perfect bundt cake at 325). Thank goodness Brad works with some big eaters. All the extra goes in to work with him. I think this weekend I'll make up a big batch of Oatmeal Crispies, a family heirloom recipe that has worked its way from the Ryan family (my maternal grandparents) into the Horgan family and now is a Bressler family favorite. The dough freezes nicely so I'll give a few logs of dough to Chris and to Shelley for future slice-and-bake cookie making. Yum. Beth and Rico arrive next week and I know they like them, too, so I'll bake some up. I'm also trying to use up what we have in the fridge and freezer for meals... so far we've had pretty balanced meals, but things are going to get interesting soon when all we have left is deli cheese and old tangerines...
This weekend we hope to check the last thing off of our must-see list: we're going to see the shuttle launch. It leaves Saturday morning at 7:17, and it's about four hours away, so I think we'll leave on Friday night and stay over somewhere. I've been meaning to see this for a while, and this is our last chance for a while.
Today I'm cleaning out bathrooms, and am glad to announce that no roaches have been found! Typically roaches hang out in wet areas, and when it rains they come inside and hang out in the bathrooms. I feared the worst, but found zero. Happy day! Now, if only I knew what to do with the five year old Crest whitestrips that I keep meaning to use... perhaps I'm ready to throw those away and get new ones.
So today is bathrooms, towels, and linens; tomorrow I'll pack up the craft room. My sewing machine is one of my "maybe" boxes-- if it fits in the van, I'll take it. If not, I'll store it. I just love it so, and use it often... I guess I could do without it for a year.

Just remember to leave out enough linens to get you through the next two weeks. Drying with paper towels after a shower is a bear :o)
