Still More May Catch-up

On Sunday the 17th we began posting furniture items on Craigslist to sell. We posted our sofa set, lockers, kitchen table, dining table, bookshelves, you name it. And what a response!!! We had people coming over nightly to look at stuff, which was crazy as we were having house showings at the same time (our landlord is selling the house). It made for a super crazy week. It didn't help, either that the bunnies had been recovering from their surgeries on the 14th. Both came through surgery just fine, but they need to be still and quiet for about a week to let their incisions heal.

In preparation for selling my old dining chairs I needed to get them off the lanai and clean them a bit. I asked Brad to bring them around front so I could hose them off. He brought one into the front yard and then banged on the front door. I tried to open it but he held it closed-- weird, I thought. "Open. The. Garage." he said. Ooooookay. I opened the garage, and Brad reached in and grabbed the rake. "The snake is out front here. Give me a minute to chase him away." Ugh.

Brad chased the snake away and it slithered into the backyard. Or so we thought.

As soon as this happened it began to sprinkle, so I gave up on the idea of hosing off the chairs. "I'll just clean them off on the lanai," I said to Brad, and went back to the lanai where the three remaining chairs were. Here's what I found:

You have to click on the picture and squint a little-- photo quality was not my first priority when I saw the ugly thing ON MY LANAI. INSIDE. ICK.

I gasped and shouted some bad words, and Brad came in with the rake. He cornered it by the opened door, which made it leap, which made him jump, which made me gasp and shudder. The episode lasted about three minutes, but it felt like a lot longer. Between the thing leaping and wrapping itself around the rake MY HUSBAND WAS HOLDING, and Brad trying to shake it off, it was plenty adventure for the day. Brad came in and said, "I hope I never have to do that again." And then I threw up. No, not really, but it just gives me the willies.

The snake slithered outside into a hole that has been growing just outside the door. We found out this week it belongs to an armadillo. Ahh, Florida wildlife. Ick.

In the meantime our indoor wildlife had been healing well. After about a week of staying in their small cages we let each one out individually. They let us know that they were feeling better by jumping on things. Vinny has been partial to jumping on whatever he shouldn't be jumping on...

...while Georgie prefers pensive moments on the rocking chair.

We decided to move Vin's cage into the living room to let Georgie get used to him being around. This was not a great idea in her mind, and she peed all over her cage to express her displeasure.

We put the two cages a few inches apart and left a flattened box between them during the day so Georgie wouldn't see Vin. In the evenings we took the box out and let Georgie run free in the living room. She grew more and more used to the intruder and even stopped lunging and nipping at him!
